Peugeot Salt and Pepper Mills

In1840, Peugeot manufactured the first coffee mill. In 1874 they have moved onto the pepper mill. Model Z was the first pepper mill designed especially for the table. Today Peugeot still manufactures their mills in France, using only the best material, for example the high quality beech wood used in Peugeot mills is grown, harvested, dried, shaped and finished in France. If you would like to learn more about Peugot's technology, grinding mechanism and warranty please scroll down to the end of this page.

Technology

PEUGEOT mechanisms are finely-crafted kitchen tools and as such, are specialized in their function. There are currently six different spice-specific mechanisms and one coffee mechanism offered by PEUGEOT, each designed to deliver optimal grind results, from consistency of grind size to maximizing the flavors and aromas.

Warranty

Each PEUGEOT mill carries this exceptional limited warranty against manufacturing and materials defect. The whole mill is guaranteed for two years from the date of purchase, the grinding mechanism carries a lifetime warranty.

Optimal use

To obtain the best results from any PEUGEOT mill, the mechanism should always be turned in a clockwise direction, never back and forth, and never counter-clockwise, as this direction forces product out of the grinding mechanism and causes inconsistent grinding results.

PEUGEOT’s Commitment

PEUGEOT has a very strict policy concerning their mills: only the most appropriate materials will be used for each type of mechanism; and for each type of mechanism, it will be the same for all PEUGEOT mills. In other words, if two PEUGEOT pepper mechanisms are compared, even if they are at vastly different price points, the grinding mechanism in each will be the same. All peppermills have the same unique pepper mechanism. The same holds true for PEUGEOT salt mills; spice mills; wet salt mills; chili mills; nutmeg mills; and coffee mills.

Grinding mechanism - Pepper Mill

The PEUGEOT pepper mechanism is intended to be used with whole peppercorns - the dried berries from the piper nigrum (black pepper) plant, which is grown in many very warm, humid parts of the world Like most other plant-based spices and seasonings, the flavors and aromas of a peppercorn are carried in its oils. Those oils are very delicate and begin losing some of their subtleties within minutes of being exposed to the air. The PEUGEOT pepper mechanism is designed to get the most out of your pepper by first cracking the peppercorn, then grinding it to the desired size. The design is often imitated but has not been duplicated. The mechanism has a helix-shaped double row of teeth that guides the peppercorns and holds them to be cracked before being ground to the desired size. This two-stage grinding process releases more of the pepper’s oils, maximizing all the flavors and aromas of the variety of peppercorns being ground. The steel mechanism is case hardened to ensure sharpness and resiliency. It has also received a patented treatment that protects it from corrosion and further enhances its resistance to wear It is easily recognized on the mill because the all-steel mechanism hangs below it’s mounting point on the underside of the mill body.

Salt Mill

There are many different varieties of sea salt and rock salt available today and the different minerals found in each can have a subtle impact on a dish. When the salt is to be used – before, during or after cooking – also influences whether the salt should be coarse or fine. PEUGEOT’s high grade stainless steel salt mechanism is resistant to the corrosive properties of dry salt. It is specifically designed to fracture and crush dry salt to the desired consistency without causing wear upon itself It is quickly recognized because the mechanism remains flush with its mounting point on the underside of the mill body.

PEUGEOT U-Select

PEUGEOT’s patented u’Select is not a grinding mechanism, but mills equipped with it allow the user to adjust the grind of their pepper or salt mill quickly, easily and accurately. By simply turning the outer ring at the base of the mill, u’Select allows the grind to be adjusted to any level between powdery fine and very coarse.
